More you READ, the more you KNOW

Casey Slama Principal - Gordon Elementary School --

The Cat in the Hat visits Gordon Elementary School each year during Read Across America Day in March.  The Cat in the Hat reads his favorite Dr. Seuss stories to every classroom, like, "Fox in Socks, Are You My Mother, Green Eggs & Ham, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, The Sneetches, and Horton Hears a Who!"  The Cat has evolved over the past few years, but his message has been consistent that "The more that you READ, the more things you will KNOW.  The more that you LEARN, the more places you'll GO."

Being able to read is the most valuable tool for success for everyone in our world.  It's not always easy for kids learning to read, but once they do it can be a lot of fun for them because they can explore different books, stories and genres of text. Watching students grow their reading strategies, skills, and comprehension throughout the year is so exciting for our staff.  By dressing up during Read Across America Day, it is my hope that I am promoting learning to read and reading to learn AND that reading is FUN!

There is no greater gift in my opinion than teaching kids how to read.
