School Description:
Harry A. Burke High School, opened in 1967, is located on a 70 acre campus at 12200 Burke Boulevard and is the home of the Bulldogs. Burke High School serves over 2,000 students of diverse backgrounds in grades 9-12. Burke High School is dedicated to providing students with exemplary education through the collaborative efforts of students, parents, staff, and community. Burke students receive a comprehensive high school experience including college preparatory classes, Advanced Placement and honors classes, and career electives with a specialization in Aeronautics and Space. Burke student achievement has been consistent throughout the years with several National Merit Scholars, over 40 state athletic championships, excellence in co-curricular activities, clubs, drama, fine arts, music, and JROTC.

Requirements:
•Minimum of a Master's Degree with major emphasis in educational administration and supervision required.
•A valid Nebraska Teaching Certificate with endorsement in the area of administration and supervision
•Demonstrated successful experience as an Assistant principal in a diverse urban school setting required.
•Minimum of 4 years of successful teaching experience required with urban experience preferred.
•Demonstrates a clear understanding of the philosophy, purpose and function within an urban school district.
•Demonstrates an empathy for leading a strong diverse urban educational environment.
•Demonstrated philosophy that all students can and will learn.
•Demonstrated record of success which exemplifies instructional leadership, standards of academic excellence and personal integrity.
•Realizes the importance and models the use of current technology in the educational environment.
•Budgets school time to provide for the efficient conduct of school instruction and business.
•Demonstrates the promotion of life-long learning by providing pertinent professional development in both the academic curriculum as well as cultural proficiency and awareness of understanding diversity.
•Implements Board policies and the Academic Action Plan school wide for the staff and students.
•The skills pertinent to positive human relationships and the ability to work effectively with students, members of the instructional staff and the community. A Willingness and demonstrated abilities conducive to the continuous quest for quality education.

Work Schedule: Twelve Months - 261 Days
Salary Schedule: Salary Commensurate with Degree and Experience

Responsibilities:
As the High School Principal, this individual will assume the responsibility to provide a safe and secure environment for all students, staff and the community. The principal will serve as the instructional leader providing educators with the necessary district focus, research, and data information to best develop effective curriculum and instructional skills in all areas. Through extracurricular activities the Principal will demonstrate their leadership in supporting students learning of citizenship and sportsmanship.

Essential Functions/Skills:

•Keep abreast of developments in high school curriculum and instruction and provide leadership in determining the appropriateness of incorporating recent research based strategies.
•Maintain the District’s overall mission, support and implement Board policies and the Academic Action Plan school wide with staff and students
•Develop and support curriculum development and instructional growth to enhance the educational opportunities for all students.
•Monitor and use relevant data to effect change in instructional practices enhancing student learning.
•Maintain effective communication with all supporting divisions within the Omaha Public School district as well as staff, students and community.
•Maintain accurate budgetary information essential to the running of the educational facility.
•Provide leadership for a collaborative team to ensure that curriculum and instructional initiatives are student focused and aligned with the District’s mission and beliefs and school goals and Improvement plans.
•Adhere to the district evaluation process related to both classified and non-classified staff.
•Ability to work outside of normal business hours or weekends.
