REPORTS TO: Superintendent, Associate Superintendent, and Executive Director of Secondary Operations

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The essential functions of each employee’s position includes (1) regular, dependable in-person attendance on the job; (2) the ability to perform the identified tasks and to possess and utilize the identified knowledge, skills, and abilities and to perform the identified work activities; and (3) the ability to perform the physical requirements on their specific job description.

Basic:
Work entails, under the general direction of the superintendent, the direct supervision of all high school assistant principals, teachers, pupils, and classified staff, following the general policies provided by the Board of Education.

Frequent:

Maintain proper attendance and discipline of students
Assign duties to teachers and classified personnel
General management of the high school facility, grounds, equipment, and supplies. Custodians are charged with the proper care and maintenance of the building, grounds, and equipment. Principal is charged with proper use of them
Supervision of instruction that is coordinated with that of special area supervisors and the superintendent
Conduct regular meetings with the building faculty and department heads to facilitate faculty coordination, classroom instruction, and other matters that benefit the school organization
Demonstrate courage in dealing with difficult or unpleasant problems
Give support to staff members when in the presence of pupils and parents to the extent circumstances permit
Suspend, and recommend for expulsion in extreme cases, a pupil for a reasonable length of time, notifying the parent and superintendent at once
Carry out an effective plan of classroom observation and teacher evaluation, to include pre-conferences, classroom visitations, written reports, and post-conferences with certificated staff
Perhaps have the major responsibility for coordinating K-12 activities or programs
Assist the activities director in the supervision of students at various activities involving large numbers of students
Carefully plan with the faculty throughout the school year, so that detailed plans may be submitted in the spring for the purchase of textbooks and all other school supplies in preparation of the budget for the next school year
Be the educational leader of the high school and should be constantly probing for school improvements through the collaborative development of a plan for continuous improvement. Faculty and student morale is a paramount issue in maintaining high standards and achievement
Have a plan for keeping the public well aware of the activities of the high school, and especially the parents of children who have special needs and require attention
Create and maintain a parent advisory committee per BOE policy to provide a regular communication pathway regarding HS programming
Develop a plan that will ensure all forms of student government and extra-curricular activities be kept on a high standard with good faculty sponsorship
Assist with the selection, evaluation, employment, and dismissal of all personnel working in the building under his/her general supervision
Assume responsibility for suggesting revision, addition, or removal of physical facilities to meet instructional needs
Work with others to develop and instructional program responsive to school and community needs
Perform other duties as assigned
