Reading Incentives

Tammy Schaefer Principal, Cross County Community Schools --

School is so much more than assessments, assessments, assessments.  Students are under more stress and anxiety to do well in school these days that we have to find ways to have FUN and instill the love of learning.

As school staff we have had conversations about setting, working towards and reaching goals.  The students absolutely love to put their principal on the spot when they are discussing setting potential goals.  If it isn’t students earning pieces of duct tape per library book they have read in order to tape the principal to the wall, or the principal sitting on top of the school building in frigid weather due to students reaching their reading goals or the most recent, making the principal kiss a pig for reading 100 books in a two week span.

School principals will go above and beyond to support their students and staff on their successes and do almost anything, to ensure memories are being made and fun is being had with in the walls of their school building.
