JOB TITLE: JUNIOR HIGH: DEAN OF STUDENTS / ACTIVITIES DIRECTOR

REQUIREMENTS: Master's Degree with emphasis in school administration and a
valid Nebraska Administrative Certificate (or demonstrated progress toward these requirements)
A minimum of three years teaching experience
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate

REPORTS TO: Junior High Principal

RECEIVES GUIDANCE: Junior High Principal (and/or Assistant Principals and Senior High Activities Director as designated by the Junior High Principal)

JOB GOAL: Assists in the supervision of the student body at school and school activities, addresses student behavior concerns, consistently administers the Student Code of Conduct, monitors attendance requirements, schedules and coordinates JH activities, promotes an effective learning environment, develops close working relationships with parents, students, and staff, and informs administration about emerging issues. Please note: Because of the responsibilities associated with this position, extracurricular coaching duties will not be permitted.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 208 days

Initial salary placement will be determined by using the current certified salary structure plus 10 days of per diem of the current base salary. Future compensation increases will be determined by following the administrative compensation framework system.

EVALUATION: Evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of administrative personnel

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Consistent and punctual work attendance
Builds and maintains effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and community stakeholders
Communicates effectively with individuals of varied cultural and educational backgrounds
Enforces Norfolk Public Schools’ behavioral expectations and the Student Code of Conduct
Supervises and disciplines students as needed to resolve behavior and attendance issues in a positive manner
Schedules and manages all JH activities and assigns officials and other staff to work events as needed
Regularly updates the activities calendar
Assists the principal and assistant principal with supervision of student activities
Supervises the scheduling of JH practices and facility usage / availability
Inventories and resupplies the JH concession stand. Assigns concession workers as needed
Coordinates with the High School Activities Director to accurately update and ensure timely distribution of the Coaches Handbook
Annually evaluates the performance of all head coaches: grades 7 – 8
Develops and maintains an accurate and cost effective JH activities budget
Actively involves head coaches in the formation of JH budget requests related to activities
Responsible for the scheduling and oversight of the JH auditorium and Middle School and Philip Street gymnasiums
Informs community stakeholders through news releases to local media outlets, appearances before community service organizations, and reports to the Board of Education
Assists the Senior High Activities Director with event supervision, as time allows
Promotes a favorable image of the school district and builds community partnerships that enhance district programs and services
Demonstrates sound professional judgement and produces accurate and thorough documentation
Performs other specific job-related duties as directed by the building principal or his/her designee
Responsible for other duties as assigned by the building principals, Superintendent, or Board of Education
