This session will focus on how three Nebraska school districts plan to use EdReady to ensure all students succeed. We will share our stories (both current and future) and how we plan to use the EdReady content, FREE to all schools in Nebraska, to provide a more personalized learning experience for our students, making sure we identify and address any learning gaps along the way, and helping guide our students to success. 

Pupil Transportation Legislation Updates

The Nebraska Safety Center and transportation experts will provide an update on Pupil changes with LB 347 being passed and the transition into the new procedures that will take effect January 1, 2019.

Student Voice: Organizing & Creating Quality Content for School Social Media Accounts
Jill Johnson - Seward High School
In this session attendees will see how Seward Public School students are using social media to tell their story. We'll share some of the organizational systems our Social Media Interns are using to combine graphic design, journalism, and video production skills through multiple mediums while administrators and teachers easily monitor and approve content composed by students.

GRIT- Building Student Resilience
Seth Ford and David Spencer - South Platte High School
At South Platte Schools we have started biweekly learning sessions with our 7-12 students that are intended to grow our students resiliency, comfort zones, and improve how they react to events in their life. We base most of our theories on the works of Carol Dweck, Angela Duckworth, and Brian and Tim Kight.

Dyslexia Technical Assistance Document and LB 1052: What Educators Need to Know (Handout 1, Handout 2)
Dr. Eileen Vautraver and Gwelda Carlson, Nebraska Dyslexia Association
Learn what you need to know to implement LB 1052 this coming year.  Eileen Vautravers, M.D. will explain what dyslexia is and what it is not, provide characteristics of dyslexia found in preschool, elementary and secondary school students, and discuss conditions frequently associated with dyslexia. Gwelda Carlson, M.A. will explain the importance of universal screening and early identification, assessments, evidence-based instruction and accommodations

Human Trafficking
Glen Parks - Nebraska Attorney General's Office
This program is designed to teach education professionals the three ‘R’s of human trafficking:  Realize, Recognize, & Respond.  Participants will realize that human trafficking does exist in Nebraska, be able to recognize a trafficking situation or potential trafficking victim, and will know how to respond appropriately to a trafficking situation.

Are You Future Ready? A Look At Nebraska’s Statewide Projects

Dorann M. Avey - Nebraska Department of Education
Nebraska's Department of Ed and the ESU Coordinating Council collaborate on a number of projects to support districts. Some projects are statewide initiatives, others are to help meet the tenets of AQuESTT. Beth and Dorann from ESUCC and NDE will share with attendees what the projects are and how to access them for your school. The discussion will be based on the work of the Future Ready Nebraska Advisory council. Within the “gears” of Future Ready, the following projects are currently being implemented: NE’s Single Sign-On Portal - nebraskacloud.org, BlendEd Learning Pilot, NE’s Open Education Resource platform - OERcommons.org/hubs/nebraska, and National Repository of Online Courses (NROC) including EdReady (esucc.edready.org) and HippoCampus (bit.ly/ESUCCHippoCampus). Presenters will be sharing how to become involved in these projects as well as the results of implementation of the work.    The leaders of the session are also asking for feedback around your needs as a school and a principal. This information will be useful to continue collaborating and supporting schools in order to be Future Ready.

Each year the NAESP and NSASSP hold an annual conference to provide professional development for Nebraska Principals and allow for better collaboration between the organizations.  The audience for this event is made up of elementary, middle, and high school principals from across the state.  Opportunities for this year's event are closed.
