10:30        Preparing for the "It won't happen here." with Jolene Palmer, State School Security Director, NDE NDE Logo
The data from the security assessments has been collected and continues to be analyzed. This data, in conjunction with national best practice, sets the direction for Nebraska School Safety providing support to districts.  What are the greatest challenges to school safety statewide?  What can schools do to keep their students, staff, and facility as safe and secure as possible? Activating and implementing simple strategies can focus efforts in a district to answer the question all the while addressing the "it won't happen here."

12:00         Ensuring Safe and Caring School Communities with Nick Chernoff, Safer School TogetherSST Logo
Using best practice from the field of Violence Bullying Prevention and Intervention Strategies, attendees will develop a strong understanding of how to create, develop, measure, and evaluate school climate, culture, and connectedness. By ensuring a commitment to data-driven assessments of classroom/school climate and culture, we ensure environments where students feel safe, accepted and respected regardless of their gender, race, culture, religion or sexual orientation. This session will include current digital trends impacting school safety throughout North America, violence behavior patterns, and all facets of bullying and successful intervention strategies. In addition, Staff and Student online safety strategies will be reviewed.

8:30           Digital Investigations to Support Threat Assessment with Nick Chernoff, Safer School TogetherSST Logo
The vast majority of recent high-profile incidents of violence at schools and in communities had precursors leaked online in the form of social media posts. Knowing
where, how, and when to look for this critical information is the current challenge this nation faces, and it is one that we will thoroughly address. There are free online tools and techniques that all those responsible for ensuring the safety in your schools need to be regularly using. We will cover the challenges that frontline investigators and school staff are currently facing including anonymous online threats, sexting, sextortion, swatting and doxing, geolocational utilities, image verification of firearms and suicidal imagery, and searching Instagram by school location.
