Student Discipline: you're (probably) doing it wrong! We have seen 30-year administrators follow improper procedures because, "I've always done it that way." We have seen handbooks and policies which conflict with each other and with the Student Discipline Act. Let us be perfectly clear: no one has student discipline mastered, and everyone needs a refresher! Attorneys from KSB will review the requirements of Nebraska law; address discipline in unique areas such as extracurriculars, Section 504, and the special education world; and provide samples of the various student discipline forms and processes for you to use in your district. Our reason for wanting to do this workshop was simple: we want to cover the Student Discipline Act in a comprehensive and practical fashion, including training for hearing officers. We want you to leave with a clear understanding of the legal requirements and have useful materials to turn to when discipline issues arise.

Who should attend: Any administrator or aspiring administrator who has a role in the student discipline process outlines by statute, including superintendents, principals, special education directors, and aspiring administrators or others who want to serve as hearing officers. A shameless special note to superintendents: please let your principals attend! It's cheap continuing education, which will save your district money in the future.

Materials that will be provided: In addition to the presentation, attendees will be provided digital copies of the current student discipline statutes, sample forms, for the required procedures, sample student discipline policies, and checklists for administrators to use when discipline arise. We encourage you to bring a tablet or laptop to the training to pull up materials. A digital download link will be provided to you by Friday, June 17 so you can download and print items before the workshop.
